From Service in Uniform to Service in the Community
Ariel “AJ” Luna’s journey is the embodiment of selfless service. After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2000 and later serving with the New York National Guard — including deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom — AJ brought his leadership and compassion home.
As Director of Veteran Services for Bergen County, New Jersey, AJ helped transform the way local governments support veterans. He launched initiatives like the Homeless Veteran Liaison Program, connecting displaced veterans to permanent housing and long-term stability.
Under his leadership, Bergen County became one of the first U.S. communities to effectively end veteran homelessness— a milestone that speaks volumes about his character, his heart, and his relentless mission to serve others.
Today, AJ continues to mentor and advocate for veterans, making sure no one who served this nation is left behind.
